A young woman was shot in Boston shortly after graduating from high school on Thursday, authorities said.
Police found an 18-year-old woman with a gunshot wound near 200 Pier 4 Boulevard in the Seaport area around 11:45 a.m., according to Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Cox said the woman had just attended her graduation ceremony at Boston Collaborative High School in South Boston before the shooting. He mentioned there might have been an argument before the shooting.
The shooter, reportedly wearing a graduation cap and gown, is still at large.
There are two crime scenes being investigated. It’s believed the shooting occurred elsewhere before the victim was found in the Seaport.
Witnesses described hearing yelling and seeing the victim being taken away on a stretcher. Police are still looking for the shooter but say there’s no danger to the public.
Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden called the incident “a travesty” and said it shouldn’t have happened on a day like graduation.
