Two men seen with a 12-year-old girl on surveillance footage before her body was found in a Houston creek were arrested on Thursday for her death, according to the police.
Johan Jose Rangel Martinez, 21, and Franklin Jose Pena Ramos, 26, are both charged with capital murder in the death of Jocelyn Nungaray. The medical examiner confirmed that she was strangled.
It’s unclear if the suspects have attorneys, as their names were not yet listed in jail or court records by Thursday afternoon.
Jocelyn’s body was discovered in shallow creek water early Monday morning. Police said she had sneaked out of her home the night before.
Surveillance footage showed the men meeting with Jocelyn and then walking to a convenience store with her. They later walked to a bridge where Jocelyn was killed. It’s not known if Jocelyn knew the men, who were roommates.
The results of a sexual assault exam on Jocelyn are still pending.
On Tuesday, police released photos of the men from the surveillance footage and identified them as persons of interest.
