Eight people from Tajikistan were arrested in the United States because they were believed to have connections to a group called ISIS, which is a terrorist organization. This has made people worried that ISIS or groups like it might try to attack in the U.S.

These arrests happened in Los Angeles, New York, and Philadelphia. U.S. officials have been warning for a while now that there could be a terrorist attack, and they’ve been very alert.

The FBI Director, Christopher Wray, told a group of senators that he sees danger all around and that threats are higher now than he’s ever seen before.

In April, Wray said that some people coming into the U.S. from Mexico might be connected to terrorist groups.

The U.S. government, along with Turkey, is punishing three people connected to ISIS who were trying to help others travel to the U.S.

Some politicians, like Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, are using these arrests to say that the U.S. needs stronger border security.

Graham wrote to the leaders of the Senate, asking for a secret meeting to talk about ISIS threats. He thinks this is urgent and wants the meeting before the Senate takes a break.

Another senator, James Lankford, criticized how the U.S. checks people at the border and said we’re running out of time to fix it.

The Tajik people who were arrested came into the U.S. from Mexico without the right papers. They were told to go to immigration court. Officials say they were checked when they came in, but there’s no proof they were connected to ISIS then.

There wasn’t a specific plan for a terrorist attack, but the police got worried about these people after listening to their phone calls when they were already in the U.S.

Some politicians are afraid that if we don’t stop people with terrorist ties from coming in, something bad will happen on U.S. soil. They’re blaming the government for not doing enough.

A former CIA Director wrote an article saying we should take these warnings seriously because there’s a real chance of a terrorist attack in the U.S. soon.
