A state investigation is happening after a police officer accidentally hit and killed a woman with a truck on a busy beach in South Carolina on Thursday afternoon.
The Horry County Police Department said the accident happened at the Nash Street Public Beach Access, near the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk.
“What happened on the beach yesterday was tragic, and we know our community is in pain,” the department posted on Facebook on Friday. “We are thinking of everyone affected by this loss.”
The coroner identified the victim as Sandra “Sandy” Schultz-Peters, 66, from Myrtle Beach.
The police said that the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the deadly crash.
