Commissioner Keon Hardemon is hosting an event to rename a street in honor of Veye-Yo on Monday, May 27, at 5 p.m. The event, called “Remembering a Legend: Father Gerard Jean-Juste,” will take place at the Caribbean Marketplace, 5925 NE 2nd Ave., Miami, FL 33137. Veye-Yo is an organization founded by the late Father Gerard Jean-Juste. He was a beloved activist known for his strong commitment to social justice and community empowerment. The organization was established in 1978 to assist refugees escaping the dictatorship of Jean-Claude Duvalier. Over the years, Veye-Yo has provided support for the displaced and has been a voice for Haitian immigrants and the people of Haiti, advocating for various issues.
