Eight people were hurt in a shooting in Methuen early Sunday morning.

Methuen police Chief Scott McNamara said officers went to 100 Lindberg Ave around 1:55 a.m. on Sunday after hearing about a shooting.

When they got there, they found that 7 people had been shot, and another person was hurt while trying to get away.

Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker said one of the injured people was taken to a hospital by helicopter.

Tucker said there were hundreds of people at the location for a car enthusiasts meetup, which was advertised on social media. The police chief said they didn’t know about the meetup beforehand, or they would have shut it down earlier.

The victims are between their late teens and 22 years old.

Tucker said it’s surprising that more people weren’t hurt given the amount of evidence they found from bullets.

Two people are still in critical condition.

No one has been arrested yet, and the investigation is ongoing.
