Two people were killed in a Las Vegas home near Wetlands Park, and it was recorded by a surveillance camera inside the house. The incident happened on June 5 around 9:40 p.m. when a man called 911 to report finding two bodies in his neighbor’s house on Droubay Drive.
The victims were later identified as Melinda Smith and Ronald Racine, found in the upstairs master bedroom with gunshot wounds to the back of their heads.
The homeowner, who had left town on June 1 for work, was renting the house to Melinda, Ronald, and another person. The third renter became concerned when he hadn’t heard from them and asked a neighbor to check on them. The neighbor discovered the bodies on June 5 but did not call 911 until later that evening.
Surveillance footage showed Dianelys Fernandez and Guillermo Ramirez Lastre entering the room where the bodies were found. They argued with Ronald about a vehicle and money owed to him. Ramirez Lastre then shot Ronald, and when Melinda entered the room, he told her that Ronald had shot himself.
Ramirez Lastre and Fernandez left the room, and the next day, the bodies were discovered by the neighbor and the renter. Police identified Ramirez Lastre through Ronald’s cell phone records and arrested both suspects on June 11.
Fernandez initially claimed she stayed in the car, but later admitted to being in the room and hearing the gunshot. Ramirez Lastre denied being armed, despite video evidence showing otherwise.
Both Ramirez Lastre and Fernandez are charged with two counts of murder, robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery, and are being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center. They are scheduled to appear in court on June 17.
