A Baltimore man was found not guilty of first-degree murder of another Baltimore man on May 13 in Baltimore City Circuit Court.
Adam White was murdered in February 2023 on the 4100 block of Duane Avenue.
Darius Joyner was also found not guilty on three other charges: using a firearm in a violent felony, conspiracy to use a firearm in a violent felony, and carrying a handgun.
In her closing statement, Joyner’s defense attorney, Karyn Meriwether, provided more than 60 examples of reasonable doubt to the jury. One key point was that there was no firearm evidence or independent witness linking her client to the murder.
The prosecution argued that Joyner committed the crime with passion but planned it carefully because White had allegedly sexually assaulted the witness before.
The jury deliberated and later that day declared Joyner not guilty.
Joyner’s case was overseen by Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Videtta A. Brown.
