Officials announced on Monday that they’ve found and put back into custody an inmate who escaped from a jail in Rancho Cucamonga.

The inmate, Deshaun Stamps, age 29 from Riverside, had gotten away over the weekend from the West Valley Detention Center. He was originally in custody since January 2023 for attempted murder.

LAPD officers found Stamps in Los Angeles on Monday and took him back into custody. They plan to hand him over to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

The sheriff’s department expressed gratitude to the Los Angeles Police Department and the public for their help in finding Stamps.

It’s still not clear how he managed to escape from the jail.
