Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay had a bike accident recently and said his helmet saved him in a video he shared on social media.

“I really love cycling, triathlons, and Ironman races. Unfortunately, I had a bad accident this week. I’m lucky to be here,” Ramsay told his 17 million Instagram followers.

Ramsay, 57, said he didn’t break any bones but showed a big bruise on his torso, with his hands shaking in the video. He didn’t give details about the crash but went to Lawerence + Memorial Hospital in New London for treatment.

“The trauma surgeons, doctors, and nurses were amazing. You have to wear helmets. They’re important,” Ramsay said. “Helmets cost money, but they’re crucial.”

Ramsay called his recovery a tough week but said he’s managing.

Former contestants on Ramsay’s cooking shows sent supportive messages.

“When you lifted your shirt, my heart sank! The world needs you, chef!” said Jordan Torrey, a Next Level Chef contestant married to makeup artist Jacyln Hill. “So glad you’re okay, and thank goodness for that helmet! Happy Father’s Day and get well soon!”

Mada Abdelhamid, another Next Level Chef contestant and personal trainer to Jason Momoa, also wished Ramsay a speedy recovery.
