A plane crashed near South Lake Tahoe in California on Thursday afternoon. Two people were killed in the crash after the plane was reported missing.
The Alpine County Sheriff’s deputies were informed about the missing plane at around 1 a.m. The plane’s GPS signal showed it was near Luther Pass, specifically in the Willow Creek area.
Deputies went to the area and found the crashed plane next to Willow Creek Road. Both people on board were found dead.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that search teams discovered the wreckage of a single-engine Luscombe 8A around 5:30 a.m.
The plane had taken off from Lodi Airport on Wednesday afternoon, according to the FAA.
The names of the deceased are not being released until their families are notified.
The Alpine County Sheriff’s deputies are leading the investigation with the coroner. The National Transportation Safety Board, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, and the FAA are also involved in the investigation.
