A missing 4-year-old boy from Torrance was found safe after spending a night in the wilderness on Friday.
The boy, Christian Ramirez, was on a camping trip with his family at Rancheria Campground near Huntington Lake, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
Christian went missing shortly before 11 a.m. on Thursday. His family searched for an hour before calling authorities for help.
Over 50 rescue crew members, deputies, and volunteers searched the area into the night but found no signs of the boy.
The next morning, at 8 a.m., the Tulare County Search and Rescue Team found Christian about a quarter mile from where he disappeared. He was under a tree, tired and hungry, but otherwise in good condition. He had spent around 22 hours alone in an area with dangerous wildlife and tough terrain.
Rescue video showed Christian being carried to safety. He was wearing only a t-shirt and shorts. After being given a sandwich, he was reunited with his worried parents.
It’s unclear how Christian got separated from his family. Authorities are urging campers to be prepared and to keep a close watch on children, pets, and family members.
Huntington Lake is located about 300 miles north of Los Angeles County in the Central Valley area.
