Two people died and nine others were hurt on Thursday in Chile when a passenger train crashed into another train during a test near Santiago, the capital.
The crash is being investigated to find out why it happened. One train car ended up on top of a car from the other train.
The freight train had eight cars and was carrying 1,346 tons of copper. It also had passengers. The other train, with 10 workers, was doing a speed test, according to the state rail company.
The identities of the two people who died have not been released. Four Chinese citizens were among the injured and were being treated at nearby hospitals in San Bernardo, Chile.
Transportation Minister Juan Carlos Muñoz said, “We need to find out what caused this and take the necessary actions.”
