A man from California flooded parts of southwestern Virginia with illegal fentanyl pills he bought from someone else in California. Now, he’s been given an 11-year prison sentence. This ends a complex case that landed eight people in jail.

The man, Marco Antonio Orozco, admitted last July that he worked with others to distribute fentanyl. He said he sold thousands of these dangerous pills every month to another man named Alexander Ortiz, who then sold them to more people in Virginia.

Orozco was getting the pills from a guy named Roberto Contreras, who also admitted to his role in the illegal operation. Orozco’s home was raided by authorities, and they found a large amount of these pills. Over three years, Orozco helped distribute at least 12 kilograms of fentanyl, which is enough to cause millions of fatal overdoses, according to the DEA.

The whole operation was exposed when a local dealer in Virginia sold pills to teenagers that caused them to overdose. This dealer admitted to buying thousands of pills from Orozco and then selling them locally or giving them to other dealers in the area. These other dealers also got caught and are now serving prison time. Two other people from California who were involved in the scheme also pleaded guilty and got prison sentences.
