A man known as the “bad breath rapist” was caught in the San Francisco Bay area after more than 16 years on the run. He fled Massachusetts after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a coworker.
Tuen Kit Lee was convicted in 2007 of kidnapping and raping a young woman in Quincy, near Boston. He escaped before his sentencing. Authorities didn’t give up, keeping his case in the news and sharing his photo on shows like “America’s Most Wanted.” When they spotted someone who looked like Lee on social media, they tracked him down to California.
Police arrested Lee and a woman as they left a fancy house near Danville, east of Oakland. At first, Lee lied about who he was but admitted his real identity when questioned. He was identified through fingerprints.
The woman with him had been together for 15 years but didn’t know his true identity, according to Massachusetts State Police.
Lee broke into the victim’s home in Massachusetts in 2005 and raped her. He was caught through DNA evidence and his bad breath, earning him the nickname “The Bad Breath Rapist.”
Lee is now in custody in California, waiting to be sent back to Massachusetts.
