Atlantic City police responded to a big fight outside on the 400 block of North Delaware Avenue at around 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5. The group fighting was a mix of adults and children, mostly females.
Police arrested three females at the scene. Later, they identified five more females who they say attacked officers and interfered with the arrests.
The other five females were arrested at different places and times throughout the week.
Chief James Sarkos said that the police will use all their resources to hold anyone accountable who assaults officers. He praised the officers for their good work on the investigation and arrests.
Amanda Bethel, 32, from Mays Landing, was charged with assaulting a police officer, hindering arrest, obstructing justice, starting a riot, and disorderly conduct. Queenetta Gilliard, 33, from Atlantic City, faced similar charges, including assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
Sadiyah Gilliard, 25, and Mya Spellman, 24, both from Atlantic City, were also charged with assaulting a police officer, hindering arrest, obstructing justice, starting a riot, and disorderly conduct.
A 14-year-old girl was charged with having a weapon, using it unlawfully, assaulting a police officer, starting a riot, and disorderly conduct. A 13-year-old girl was charged with assaulting a police officer, simple assault, starting a riot, resisting arrest, and obstructing justice.
Two 12-year-old girls were charged as well. One faced charges similar to the 13-year-old, and the other was charged with simple assault.
The four adult women were held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility, while the four girls were released with future court dates.
