The high school football season has reached Week-5; a crucial juncture punctuated as a greater measure of seriousness and intensity emerges with the start of league play.

The centerpiece among the top pairings this week unfolds Friday evening when the #3 Oak Ridge Trojans and the #1 Folsom Bulldogs take center stage in a glittering marquee match-up of Sierra Foothill League rivals showcased on Access Sacramento‘s Hometown Sports Game of the Week.

The live telecast may be seen in Sacramento County on Comcast or Consolidated Cable channel 17 and AT&T U-Verse channel 14. The game will also be streamed live from AccessSacramento.org, and on the NFHS Network.

The visiting Oak Ridge Trojans (2-1) carry renewed confidence and major momentum into the contest following a dramatic 28-27 comeback road victory over #12 Elk Grove, and appear to have clarified its starter in an on-going quarterback duel between two juniors.

Maddox Varella will likely emerge as Head Coach Casey Taylor’s starting QB over Drew Cowart following Varella’s impressive passing performance and overall clutch play last week at Elk Grove. Multi-threat standout Reese Catchings is the key to the Trojans’ offense. The senior RB/WR has compiled 466 total yards and 4 TD in three starts. Linebacker Jake Hall and Defensive End Connor Dasmann spark  the Trojans’ defense.

Meanwhile, Folsom Head Coach Paul Doherty leads another elite team that features an explosive offense averaging 47 points per game. The Bulldogs have devoured three ranked opponents – – Monterey Trail, Jesuit, and Pittsburg — by a combined score of 140-38.

Junior Quarterback Tyler Tremain has been sensational, passing for 830 yds. and 16 TDs with a 63% completion rate. Big-play receivers Rico Flores, Justin Arnaz, and Lucas Wolfe have accounted for 11 TD receptions. Linebacker Josh Tremain (34 tackles) and Defensive Back Caden Bienvenue (24 tackles) lead the Bulldogs’ defense.

Prairie City Stadium will be under siege by a capacity crowd Friday evening. If you’re planning to attend the game, an extra early arrival is recommended. Otherwise, settle into an easy chair and tune-in to Access Sacramento’s Hometown Sports Game of the Week for the pre-game at 6:45, and the opening kickoff at 7:00 pm.
