Fall football in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section enters Week-4 of the rapidly advancing season, traversing the calendar at a better rate than the games actually being played.

COVID-19 and lingering poor air quality in the region since the season began have disrupted team continuity and caused countless games to be either cancelled or postponed and rescheduled on non-traditional game days and times. As a result of the overwhelming need to schedule make-up games, the CIF has cleared the way for teams to play on Sundays.

Friday evening #3 Oak Ridge (1-1) and #14 Elk Grove (0-1), are scheduled to battle in an attractive non-league match-up to be televised on Access Sacramento‘s Hometown Sports Game of the Week.

The live telecast begins at 7:00 pm and may be seen in Sacramento County on Comcast or Consolidated Communications Cable channel 17 and AT&T U-Verse channel 14. The game will also be streamed live from and on the NFHS Network. Will James, Jim Dimino and Lauren Goodman will call the action.

Newly installed Oak Ridge Head Football Coach Casey Taylor returns to his alma mater and brings another formidable Oak Ridge Trojans team down the hill. The Trojans’ offense averages a hair under 400 yards per game. Senior Running Back-Receiver Reese Catchings is the centerpiece, totaling 306 yards.

It has been a two week layoff for the Elk Grove. Coach John Heffernan’s Thundering Herd hasn’t played since opening week when Elk Grove absorbed a 15-6 loss to Inderkum. The Herd’s “Triple Option Offense” is driven by senior running backs Pita Folaumotui (82 yds) and Zeke Burnett (105 yds).

These two prominent head coaches, and two highly ranked, talent-laden teams, should combine for a winning combination and some good TV-sports time.
