Besides territorial bragging rights, an important early season outcome will be on the line Friday evening when the Grant Pacers tangle with the Inderkum Tigers in the featured varsity football match-up on Access Sacramento‘s Home Town Sports Game of the Week.

The close geographic proximity of Del Paso Heights to Natomas has served as the battleground for Grant and Inderkum where the teams square-off Friday evening in this spicy non-league contest.

The live telecast begins at 7:00 p.m. and can be seen in Sacramento County on Comcast and Consolidated Communications Cable channel 17, and AT&T U-Verse channel 14. The game will also be streamed live from AccessSacramento.org and the NFHS Network.

Grant takes the field for the first time under new Head Coach, Carl Reed, replacing retired Head Coach, Mike Alberghini, whose storied half-century career is decorated with the distinction of being the all-time winningest (282) coach in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section history.

Reed has an enormous pair of shoes to fill, and a tough mission to accomplish, facing a rugged non-league slate before leading the young Pacers into a daunting Sierra Foothill League gauntlet.

Adding further intrigue to Friday’s mix, is the presence of Inderkum’s newly installed Head Coach, Reggie Harris. The former assistant coach on the same Grant staff with Carl Reed, will escort the Tigers through the Capital Valley Conference.

Harris, who also has a large footprint to follow, is Inderkum’s third Head Coach in three years, following Casey Taylor, and Tigers’ inaugural head coach, Terry Stark, Inderkum’s all-time winningest (159-29) coach.

Harris was successful in his Inderkum debut last week when the Tigers prevailed in their home opener with a sticky 15-6 victory over Elk Grove. Meanwhile, Grant was idle last week after the Covid-related cancellation of its scheduled opener against Lodi.

Don’t be surprised when both teams — that regularly boast superior team speed that rates among the best in the section — are able to break big-play touchdowns.  Even so, abundant intrigue and uncertainty are swirling around both teams, and speculation is plentiful in a match-up that clearly favors Inderkum.

Answers to many compelling questions should surface and provide clear indications of how far these squads can push toward the playoffs, in a game likely to reveal the emergence of a new set of exciting young football standouts.
