Hometown Sports

The curtain rises this week for the 2021 high school football season, which marks the return of Access Sacramento‘s television coverage on the Hometown Sports Game of the Week.

A marquee match-up holding maximum attraction features two area heavyweights on a collision course Friday evening (Aug. 20) in Elk Grove, where defending Metro League Champion Monterey Trail plays host to Sierra Foothill League (SFL) Champion, Folsom. This confrontation marks the renewal of an intense rivalry that has produced some of the most notable games during the past 20 years.

The visiting Folsom Bulldogs are guided by third-year Head Coach Paul Doherty, who has assembled another explosive pro set passing attack.

The trigger man is Senior Quarterback Tyler Tremaine; the SFL MVP last season, passing for 27 TDs and more than 2,000 yards in just six games. His primary targets are big-play Wide Receivers Rico Flores, Jr. and Onterrio Smith, Jr., and heavily recruited Tight End Walker Lyons.

With Head Coach T.J. Ewing at the helm steering the Monterey Trail Mustangs’ vaunted Veer Offense, veteran Quarterback Vince Arcuri will distribute the ball to another talented group of running backs featuring Ronnie Brutas, Ali Collier, Jace Magnuson, and Fullback Fatafehi Puloka.

The opening kickoff for this live telecast is set for 7:00 pm. An overflow crowd is expected at Macres Stadium. Those planning to attend the game would be wise to arrive early.

The game may be seen on Comcast and Consolidated Communications Cable channel 17, and AT&T U-Verse channel 14. The game will also be streamed live from Access and on the NFHS Network.
