Sacramento can look forward to good food, music, and fun coming this summer during the months of June and July.
Governor Newsom just recently announced California’s plan to fully reopen the economy coming June 15th, so long as criteria regarding vaccine distribution and hospital rates are met.
The governor’s plan creates a great opportunity to have some family fun at the Sacramento Vegan Food Festival and Mariachi Festival de Sacramento during the summer months of June and July.
Sacramento Vegan Festival and Mariachi Festival de Sacramento are the first known festivals scheduled to take place after the reopening.
“My excitement is really high right now, I’m very excited to be able to finally get things going back to where there’s some normality to our lives” Miguel Castillo, the producer and coordinator of the Sacramento Vegan Good Festival and Mariachi Festival de Sacramento explained.
Sacramento’s Vegan Food Festival offers a myriad of vegan alternatives to some of the most favored dishes like hamburgers, barbecue, fried chicken, tacos, and hot dogs.
“One of the great things about the vegan food festival and why we even started it is because sac is the farm to fork capital,” said Miguel.
Miguel explained how the vegan food festival was born from his troubles of not being able to eat at any of his festivals following his start of a plant-based diet, and often having to pack his own food for his events.
“I remember thinking one time, wow it would be great to have an event where I can eat at any booth without having to worry about it, and so I started to think well why not have the vegan food festival”
The Sac Vegan Food festival is 100% plant-based with vendors from all around Sacramento and beyond serving various vegan cuisines.“
“To provide food that’s delicious, flavorful, and that is good for you” Miguel explained in regards to the creation and role of the Vegan food festival.
Live music performances, guest speaking from health officials, and potential cooking demonstrations are to look forward to at this event. The sac vegan food festival will take place in Southside park from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm on June 19th of 2021.
Miguel explained how he expects the attendance of the vegan festival to be high and believes that it will be one of the festivals that will stay in Sac for a long time.
Mariachi Festival de Sacramento is another event to look forward to taking place in the month of July. Mariachi Festival de Sacramento is a two-day festival full of arts and crafts, food, and great music from artists like the Grammy awarded Mariachi Divas and Mariachi Nuevo J Mexico.
“This festival is such a wonderful and fun festival for the Sacramento community that has been going on for 7 years now.”
Mariachi Festival de Sacramento takes place In Southside Park, Downtown Sacramento on July 24th, Saturday from 4 pm to 9 pm, and July 25th, Sunday from 12 pm to 6 pm.
Both festivals plan to follow the specific covid guidelines in place during the months of June and July. Along with abiding by the health department’s guidelines, they plan to promote a safe environment with mask requirements, sanitation stations, and available masks and hand sanitizers for attendees.
“We’re hoping the people that come to our event are mature enough to understand that any guidelines we impose are not because we want to but because we have to, and that in order to stay open and make things successful, and be able to continue, that we need the participation of the people.”
“One of the things that always holds community together are community events…next year we will come back with even more events and we’re just excited to be able to do this for our community,” Miguel explained.
