Over this past weekend the Access Local team and I attended the 2020 California Statewide Youth Media Conference in Oakland. We got to meet other passionate people involved in Youth Media from all over the state.

We each had our own interesting collective and individual experiences and we each had our own favorite parts.

From our trip to San Francisco, the guest speakers at the conference, and the accommodations, it is understandably hard to pick a favorite part of the trip.

However, I think that the best part was the people. This trip gave us an opportunity to meet like minded individuals who are passionate about the same things as us and are also in our same age range.

I am a little bit older than most of the youth that attended this meeting. I found myself in an interesting position, where I could give bits of advice to younger journalists and content creators.

I also got to have interesting discussions at length with the Access Local team which was nice. We only really see each other once or twice a week for a few hours at a time.

During our two train rides, games we played, and down time in our hotel room, we had a lot of time to talk about various subjects.

I found that I got to know the Access Local team better over this weekend than I had over the last month that I have been a part of the program.

I had a great experience at this conference and I am looking forward to next year’s conference as well as my future at Access Local.
