The #5-seed Monterey Trail Mustangs advanced to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 championship topping the Folsom Bulldogs 35-23 on Access Sacramento‘s Hometown Sports Game of the Week. Monterey Trail knocked the #1-seed out of the section final for the first time in 10 years.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 14-0 early lead and Folsom bounced back for a 14-14 tie in the 2nd quarter.  The Mustangs’ took control a 21-14 lead to halftime, and in the 2nd half, the Monterey trail offense put up an impressive attack, controlling the clock over the game to the tune of 40 minutes to Folsom’s eight. One scoring drive took up nearly 10 minutes alone crossing over the 3rd to 4th quarter break. Plus, the Mustangs didn’t give up a single turnover.

Folsom’s potent offense never got the chance to build any momentum and the defense was challenged by the Mustangs powerful offensive line.

Monterey Trail is now 12-1 overall and plays the Oak Ridge Trojans Sat. Nov 30 at  Hughes Stadium on the campus of Sacramento City College for the Division 1 section title. Folsom finishes its season at 10-2.
