The LGBTQ+ community is a diverse and vast group of people with a variety of identities. Whether it be someone who identifies as bisexual, non-binary, lesbian, transgender or any number of a mix of signifiers, the community can and is defined as diverse.
As a non-binary, lesbian of color living in Sacramento, I have an experience that personally, I will only understand. There are numbers of LGBTQ+ or “queer” people living in Sacramento. From age 0 and beyond, Sacramento is filled with queer people of different backgrounds, ethnicities, races, identities, etc.
I spoke with a number of youth that vary with identity and compiled a series of illustrated interviews.
Below are their illustrated responses to the following questions:
- How do you identify?
- How do you think the LGBTQ+ community in Sacramento is?
- Do you feel supported as a queer kid in Sacramento?
- Do you know resources for LGBTQ+ people?
Thank you to the following youth who spoke on their experiences:
- Josephine Minnick
- Malakhi Croxford
- Dylan Freed
- Arabesque Lynaolu
- Quinn Ford
