With four teams contending for the top spot in the CIF-Sac Joaquin Section‘s Capital Valley Conference, the CVC is arguably the third toughest collection of teams, trailing only the elite squads stacked into the Sierra Foothill League and the Delta League.

From this rugged conference, Roseville and Cosumnes Oaks square off on Access Sacramento‘s Hometown Sports Game-of-the-Week to engage in a match Friday at 7:00 pm that will further establish the early formation of the top and bottom of the CVC standings.

This live telecast may be seen on Comcast channel 17, Consolidated Communications channel 17, and AT&T U-Verse channel 14.  The game will also be streamed on and the NFHS Network.

Despite being just the second conference game, visiting Roseville is thrust into a virtual must-win situation after being blasted 40-0 by Del Campo in its CVC opener at home last week. With CVC contenders — Antelope, Del Campo, Whitney, and Cosumnes Oaks — all in the hunt for the CVC title, the urgency of victory is of vital importance to prevent an 0-2 league start by the Tigers.

Needing a tough road win to get back into the win column, Roseville Head Coach, Larry Cunha, will rely on QB Kyle Alves and RB Alex Evans to help reinstate the Tigers’ offense after getting blanked 40-0 by Del Campo last week.  Pass rusher Isaiah Jones and LBs CK Catilus and Richard Porter lead a defense that has allowed 29 ppg.

On the flip side, Cosumnes Oaks Head Coach, Derick Milgrim, will counter with a productive offense led by versatile QB Larry Frierson, RB Jacob Trach, and a deep corps of receivers sparked by Marque Collins, Kahlef Hailassie, and Nick Craig.  The Wolfpack defense — anchored by LBs Dakota Van Dyke and Samuel Adame, and DB Pierre Scott — had surrendered an average of 35 ppg against three top non-league opponents before limiting Oakmont to 14 points in a decisive road win last week.

Both defenses are on the spot in this contest, but the primary challenge falls upon a sputtering Roseville offense that must produce a minimum of four touchdowns in order for the underdog Tigers to slug it out with the Wolfpack in this tough road game.

Coming off a victory with momentum and playing at home on Homecoming night, Cosumnes Oaks stands as the favorite in this one.
