About 50% of African-American students drop out of school in Sacramento. There are local organizations trying to lower that percentage. For example, since 1967 The California Legislative Black Caucus has worked on making a change for African-American students.
The issues which CLBC focuses on two important areas- life learning and earning among African-American residents of all ages. Their initiative is to increase graduation rates by 50% an increase the college enrollment by 25%.
CLBC gives out scholarships to local African-American students. To recieve a scholarship the student must have good academic standing be a high school senior with a 2.5 GPA or higher or college freshmen with 12 units.
