Non-profits are working hard every day to help make our communities better and we are interviewing two of them right here on LiveWire! Breathe California will be in to share their event with us, “A Community Forum on Cap and Trade” which will take place on May 7th. Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) will be in to talk about how they work with high school kids and give them a better opportunity to get into college.

Founded in 1917 as the Sacramento County Tuberculosis Association, the organization that is now Breathe California of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails (BREATHE) serves 28 counties in Northern California. Though their focus is local, BREATHE has a national reputation for breaking new ground and seeking original solutions to cleaning the air and improving lung health.

 

Today, BREATHE continues its tradition of challenging the existing status quo as they strive to clean the air, improve lung health, and eliminate tobacco from people’s lives. They’re proud to say that they spend 100% of everydollar raised in the communities we serve to develop and expand the innovative programs that are working improve our region’s health.

AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities.
