Women’s Wisdom Art, formerly known as the Women’s Wisdom Project (WWP), was founded in 1991 as part of Maryhouse, a daytime hospitality shelter for homeless women and children.

Maryhouse itself was established in September 1986 by Laura Ann Walton in conjunction with the Sisters of Mercy and as one of the services offered by Loaves and Fishes.

The Women’s Wisdom Project was designed asan empowerment program, for women overcoming poverty, homelessness, violence and abuse through the power of art. The women formed an artists’ co-op and always donated a portion of the proceeds back into he program with any art sale.
