Four second-half touchdowns by Rio Linda‘s Marcel Brown pushed the Knights to a 40-13 victory over the Christian Brothers Falcons Friday night in Access Sacramento’s Game of the Week.

Rio Linda pounded up the field, rushing for 338 yards on 57 carries overall, but it was six-foot senior fullback Brown who picked up nearly half that total earning 166 yards on 23 carries himself.

Brown have four second-half TDs on runs of three, nine, 24 and 37 yards to earn the points.

Rio Linda’s defense though held tough all game though, picking up three interceptions and forcing short punts to provide Knights’ quarterback Stephen Andrews great field position all game.

In five out of six scoring drives, the Knights took less than two-minutes to pick up the TD.

Most of Christian Brothers offense came in the passing game, as Coach Greg Petrissans‘ Falcons all-game hurry-up offense meant they strived to have only four-seconds between plays.

Junior 6-3 195-pound quarterback Chris Guillen then had his work cut out, completing 16 of 30 passes for 101 yards.  Eight of the passes were completed to Sean Olson for 43 yards.

The Touchdown passes went to Erik Boomquist for 14 yards with just three-seconds left in the half, allowing Christian Brothers to close to within seven points, 13-6 at the half.

 

Christian Brothers only other touchdown came in the third quarter with an 11-yard pass to Brendan Gormley in the late third quarter, but at that point CB was still down by two touchdowns and Rio Linda would tack on two more TD’s in the fourth quarter to seal the final.

Rio Linda’s defense claimed three interceptions off the junior CB quarterback.  In most cases, Christian Brothers was four and out in less than a minute and a half, including the three interception turnovers.

Rio Linda football captain and cornerback Keenan Hunt was named Access Sacramento’s Player of the game, not only for his touchdown, but for an interception, three other pass break ups and a huge punt return.

Rio Linda is now 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Capital Valley Conference.  Christian Brothers is 4-3 overall and 1-1 in league.
