Cordova knew it could happen. Pioneer had used the play the week before. But that didn’t prevent Pioneer from using the same halfback-option pass play three times to rack up 95 yards and set up two second-half touchdowns and snatch victory 14-13 before the Cordova home crowd.

Once in the closing seconds of the third quarter and again with less than two-minutes in the game, those passes set up the chance for Bosser to cap the drive with a 1 yard touchdown runs, and then a right-end scamper for the PAT to edge the Lancers.
Halucy also carried the ball nine times for 51 yards including a 44 yard dash that helped set up Pioneers 3rd quarter score.
Cordova had the lead until the last two minutes of the game, taking a 13-0 advantage to the halftime locker room.
Cordova quaterback Zach Tapia picked up the game’s first TD with 9:58 in the second quarter with a 1 yard TD run capping a seven play 52 yard drive. Tapia also carried the ball 17 times for 141 yards including a 50 yard explosion down the left side before being forced out of bounds.
The Lancers picked up 367 yards in total offense, but were also penalized 12 times for 120 yards and in the four quarter had been first a 10 on the 11 yardline, before ending up with a second-down and 44 yards to go after a series of costly mistakes.
Cordova Running Back Michael McNeil was selected as Access Sacramento’s Player of the Game scoring the Lancers second TD on a 37 yard run with 2:59 to go in the half. McNeil, a 5-10, 160-pound senior, rushed for 117 yards on 17 carries and caught two passes for seven yards.
Cordova was stung in the third quarter by a halfback option pass that ended up in a Pioneer TD. Pioneer repeated the trick two more times with under three minutes to go in the game with strikes from Bosser to Haulcy for 44 and 21 yards before Bosser went in from one-yard out to make it Cordova 13-12 over Pioneer.
Bosser’s two-point PAT run swtiched the Patriot’s fate with 1:56 left in the game and on only three plays, visiting Pioneer stunned the home crowd. Codova tried to gain traction in one final drive, but an interception ended the effort.
Pioneer is now 3-2 overall. Codova is 1-4.
