Today is August 9, 2012, and the heat is on!  Tomorrow, and for the upcoming weekend, the temperatures will be at their highest. On Friday, the forecast says it will be 104, and on Saturday Sacramento will be 109. So my suggestions to you would be to either stay inside with the A/C on, or take a trip to the community pool.

The George Sim Center, located on 6207 Logan St., is open Tu-Sun, 1-5pm. Colonial Play Pool, which is for smaller children, is located 18th Ave. & 53rd St. and is open from 1-5pm M-Th. The pool is closed Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays. Tahoe Park Pool is located at 3535 59th St. and is open Tu/Thurs/Sat, 2-6pm. The McClatchy Park Pool is located on 35th St. and 5th Ave. and it is open 1-5pm on Mon-Thur/Sat/Sun. Lastly, the Southside Park Pool located  6th and U St. It is operated by YMCA.

Some tips for staying cool would be drink a lot of fluids and eat light meals regularly. Also, take cold showers and wear light color clothing, for example gym shorts and a white t-shirt would be fine. If you work in landscaping or work in the sun a lot, while on your break drink water and stay in the shade as much as possible. If you are engaged in sports, drink 2-4 servings of water between breaks every hour. Adults should limit their intake of alcoholic and caffeinated beverages.

For your pets, hose them down with water from time to time and keep ice cubes in their water bowls. Or better yet, bring them in the house for a couple of hours to cool down. If you are the type of person who takes your pet everywhere, I would suggest this would not be the week to do that. Leaving a pet in the car is against the law and you can be charged with a misdemeanor and receive a $500 fine.
