Did you know that 153 teens died in car crashes in California last year? That is equivalent to five average size high school classes lost to something so preventable.
Distracted driving due to cell phone use is an “epidemic” according to US Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, and studies show that it is a factor in 18% of fatal crashes involving young drivers.
CHP, Safety Center and Impact Teen Drivers are sponsoring a Distracted Driving Expo to engage teens about the dangers of distracted driving and to gain their commitment to avoid this unsafe driving behavior.
WHO: CHP, Impact Teen Drivers & Safety Center
WHEN: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday June 16, 2012
WHERE: Safety Center, 3909 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento 95827
WHAT: Distracted Driving Obstacle Course, Driving Simulators, Videos, Interactive Activities, Prize Drawings
This Expo is a free event to give teens first-hand experience with the consequences of distracted driving.
An obstacle course, supervised by CHP officers, will show what can happen when drivers take their eyes off the road.
Driving simulators demonstrate how multiple distractions can make it difficult to keep a driver’s attention focused on the road.
Interactive games and activities will provide strategies to help young people develop lifelong safe driving attitudes and skills.
The Distracted Driving Expo is a new event at Safety Center and will run in conjunction with the Family Safety and Health Expo at Safetyville USA.
