The Corps will have its April Park Workday this Saturday, April 7th. Check-in will be at 9:00 a.m. at the Corps’ regular “Base Camp,” located in the picnic grounds directly behind Fairytale Town.
This week, a park supervisor shared with us some disturbing information on the declining number of park workers in William Land Park over the past 40 years:
Year Number of Park Workers
1970 50
1986 29
2005 19
2012 (Today) 4
It gets worse: one of our four remaining park workers is currently out on disability while another is on restricted light duty, leaving just two able-bodied workers to care for the entire park, both of whom are nearing retirement.
In short, the Corps has become indispensable to the care of the park and the investments we make in the park for plants, planting materials, supplies, etc., must continue if we are to protect it from major deterioration. So, please, give generously to the Corps so that we can give the park the TLC it needs and deserves. And join us on Saturday to do the job we do best: keeping the park beautiful. Thank you all.
We also want to thank our ongoing breakfast sponsor, EXPRESSO METRO, and an anonymous Corps member for sponsoring our lunch this month. We always encourage Corps donors to join us for breakfast or lunch. See you in the park on Saturday!
