In a smooth transition, long-time Board Chair Carl Burton welcomed a new leadership team at the annual Board elections September 15. He will continue to serve as an advisor to newly elected and former Vice Chair Jo Ann Fuller. Jo Ann recently retired from leadership in California Common Cause. The Vice Chair position will be filled by Gary Martin, Television instructor from Cosumnes River College, the new Secretary for the Board is former Bee reporter Walt Yost and the new Chief Financial Officer (non-voting) will be C.P.A. Gary Malkasian.
Board members expressed their appreciation for Burton’s leadership over the years. In a by-laws change approved by members this past May, Burton will serve in an ex-officio capacity for the next year assisting Fuller and the other new members of the leadership team.
The Board thanked Burton for his generosity over the years, offering his home for Board retreats and committee gatherings. “It has been a pleasure to serve as Chair for so many years” he concluded. “Access Sacramento offers a unique opportunity for the diversity of our County to be showcased. I will continue to invite everyone I meet to get involved.”
