The Village of Hempstead held its 139th annual Memorial Day Parade on Sunday afternoon.

Participants started at Legion Square and marched to Greenfield Cemetery, where a ceremony was held at the Civil War Monument to honor fallen heroes.

Organizers said hundreds of people attended the event.

The village’s parade first started in 1886, making it the oldest Memorial Day parade on Long Island.
