A young girl is fighting for her life after being hit by a stray bullet in south Seattle, according to KIRO 7 News.

Investigation Details

The girl suffered a gunshot wound to the head, said sources to KIRO 7. The shooting happened inside an apartment at Creston Point Apartments on Martin Luther King Jr. Way South, according to a spokesperson for the King County Sheriff’s Office. The first emergency call came in at around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center, and her condition is currently stable, a source told KIRO 7.

Initially, a source reported the girl was two years old, but on Friday, the King County Sheriff’s Office clarified she is 10 years old.

When asked about a suspect, officials said they had no updates. KIRO 7 also contacted Harborview Medical Center for more details about the girl’s condition but is still waiting for a response.

Fire crews from Skyway, Renton Regional Fire Authority, and Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority helped rush the girl to the hospital. No other injuries were reported. Detectives are asking for the public’s help in this case.

Neighbors’ Reactions

KIRO 7 News spoke with neighbors who said they heard several gunshots overnight on Thursday.

“It woke me up. I heard five or six shots. Somebody yelling. People screaming,” said Mario Littlefield, a neighbor. He checked on his children to make sure they were safe. “First thing, go check on the kids right away. Make sure they’re okay. Make sure no stray bullets come through the house,” he said. “I feel awful. It could have been my kid or somebody else.”

Littlefield and other neighbors mentioned that shootings are common in the area. “There’s always a shooting or something going down here, almost daily,” Littlefield said. “I don’t feel safe here. I don’t let my kids play out here at night.”

Huda Ragge, who has lived in the apartment complex for 14 years, added, “This is not the only shooting. It’s every other day. It happens.”

Several apartment buildings near the crime scene had what looked like bullet holes, including a nearby van.
