Gunshots were heard at an apartment building in Madison, Wisconsin, on Sunday, injuring at least 10 people, including a teenager, according to the police.

The police were called to the Lux apartments around 12:45 a.m. because of a rooftop party, but when they arrived, they were told about the shooting. Many people were trying to leave the building as the police got there. A teenager was found wounded on the street with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Police Chief Shon Barnes, who spoke at a press conference reported by CBS News affiliate WISC.

Chief Barnes said that they were told there might be more injured people inside the building, so the police officers went up 12 flights of stairs to reach the rooftop, not knowing what they might find. They discovered some people in distress, with some even hiding in a maintenance closet to stay safe.

It was a relief that no one had died, according to Chief Barnes. The victims’ ages range from 14 to 23. Some of them were taken to the hospital by the local fire department, which said that five of them had gunshot wounds.

A few of the injured went to the hospital on their own. The police said that none of the injuries seemed life-threatening.

The police believe that the shooting was targeted, but no arrests have been made yet. They haven’t provided a description of the shooter either. Detectives are still talking to the victims and witnesses and examining digital evidence.
