Access Sacramento‘s live television coverage of the Roseville Tigers vs. Cosumnes Oaks high school Wolfpack football game on the Hometown Sports Game-of-the-Week, presented a solid Capital Valley Conference match-up of some importance, and a wonderful reminder that some long-standing traditions have indeed, remained intact as the Pack triumphed 36-21.
Access Sacramento’s Will James and Jim Dimino call the highlights:
Long before the King and Queen were crowned in the midst of Cosumnes Oaks High School’s halftime Homecoming ceremonies Friday night in Elk Grove, the host Wolfpack had already dealt three crowning blows onto visiting Roseville, as the quick-striking Pack led 13-0 at the quarter break, and 22-6 at the half.
Roseville Head Coach, Larry Cunha, steadied his injury riddled Tigers, who fought back into contention at 29-14. But Wolfpack Head Coach, Derick Milgrim countered with a typical response from his explosive, big-play offense.
Wolfpack WR and Kick Return Specialist, Marque Collins took center stage, and despite several attempts to upstage him, Collins held onto his starring role with a firm, steady grip.
Collins hauled in a pair of 34-yard scoring passes, and returned a kickoff 70-yards for another touchdown to put the game beyond recall at 36-14 and ensure the Wolfpack of victory on Homecoming Night. A late window dressing touchdown on a 13-yard blast by Alex Evans, accounted for the final 36-21 measurement, and capped a distinguished performance by the senior fullback.
With the setback, Larry Cunha’s Tigers slip to 0-5 and face the daunting challenge of games remaining with Whitney and 3-time defending CVC champion, Antelope.
With the victory, Cosumnes Oaks improves to 2-3 overall, but elevates to 2-0 in CVC play and maintains a share of first place along with Del Campo, and 3-time defending conference champion, Antelope. Things are warming up fast in the CVC, while some fierce showdown games loom on the near horizon.
Next up, Access Sacramento’s Hometown Sports Game of the Week travels to Elk Grove again, this time for cross-town competition with Monterey Trail vs. Franklin Live Fri. Oct. 6 at 7pm on Comcast and Consolidated Communications cable channel 17, AT&T channel 14 and streaming from both AccessSacramento.org and the NFHS Network.
