Do you know how much one pint of blood can do? One pint of blood can save up to three lives. 4.5 million Americans will a need blood transfusion each year.
I will be doing my senior project by hosting a blood drive at my school. I am 17 years of age, and I am senior at Hiram Johnson High School. I have previously donated blood and have visited Blood Source which will be collecting our donations.
The Students at Hiram Johnson had collected over 200 pints of blood over the past year; 200 pints of blood which may have saved 600 lives. My high school has been coordinating with Blood Source since I was a freshman. These blood drives are highly successful as it is not uncommon for over 200 students to sign up.
What inspired me to do my senior project on coordinating a successful blood drive was a touching PowerPoint presentation by Blood Source. The presentation made me teary and left with me a desire to do something to help.
My teacher, Mr. Krebcek, had asked my class who was willing to take leadership on coordinating such a highly honorable event. I jumped on the opportunity as soon as I heard about it. At this point, I am on the process of creating a committee that will help make this blood drive another success.
I know that coordinating this blood drive will be a vigorous task, and I hope that you’ll consider making a donation during the Hiram Johnson blood drive on Thursday, February 21st, 2013. Your effort may just save a life or three.
