This video is about the Heart Walk project held Saturday 11th at the La Familia Center. This video contains a recap of the event, as well as interviews with the organizers. Also discussed is the partners that helped bring the program together.
The Legal Services of Northern California partnered with La Familia are hosting a Clean Slate information session at Maple Neighborhood Center on November 16th from 5 to 6 in the afternoon at 3301 37th Avenue in the Multi-Purpose room.
The Legal Services of Northern California, or also known as LSNC, is putting this event together to spread some more information and documents about the expungement process.
By early next year the LSNC hopes to provide a full service clinic for those who wish to expunge their record. If someone is a first time offender of a criminal conviction and want a fresh Clean Slate then the expungement process is here to help. The LSNC guide those prior offenders through the confusing process.
“This event helps (prior offenders) understand what options are available for them and the documents needed,” says Rachel Rios the Executive Director of La Familia. “This opens up a lot of doors for some people.”
Ms. Rios says that under Proposition 47 non-violent felonies can be changed, and a lot of people may not be aware of this. Ms. Rios empathizes with the young offenders who may have had an early mistake affect their lives in a negative way.
Ms. Rios mentioned how this event will help the two organizations, La Familia Counseling Center and LSNC, figure out how many people they will be helping and how to prepare for the next full-service clinic.
“This can really help people when it comes to finding housing,” says Rios, “They won’t have to mention it in their job applications.”
When it comes to housing and work a clean record gives an enormous benefit and can really change the life of many prior offenders.
