Every year, fancy sports cars gather at the door of Shriners Children Hospital. The community gathers to donate toys and help the children who are less fortunate.
canned food and toy drive
This holiday season, many local organizations have been making Sacramento’s citizens proud by organizing events to give a little back to the community. The Sacramento Zoo has even joined the ranks in more ways than one! The Zoo is partnering up with the radio station 101.9 The Wolf to bring in donations of canned or non-perishable foods and new, unwrapped toys. All donations will be going to the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services organization and Toys for Tots in Sacramento. These organizations provide emergency goods and services to more than 20,000 men, women, and children every year. Visitors to the zoo who bring a food or toy donation will get one dollar off the price of regular zoo admission.
The food and toy drive began in November and will be going on until Christmas Eve, which also happens to be the day of another event for the Zoo. On December the 24th, the Zoo is having a pajama party! That means that anyone who shows up at the Zoo in their pajamas between 10:00 am and 1:30 pm will be allowed in with free admission! So, why not stop by and drop off a donation as well? You don’t even have to get dressed!
As if all of that wasn’t enough, the Zoo is also participating in a special fundraiser from December 1st to the 30th. At the front gates of the Zoo, members of the AAZK (American Association of Zoo Keepers) will be selling bundles and wreaths of home-grown mistletoe to decorate your home for Christmas.
With a fundraiser, a food and toy drive, and a pajama party day, the Sacramento is definitely keeping itself busy this December.
