This media project was inspired and excerpted from the movie ‘Remember The Titans.’  The featured speech taught us about leadership, teamwork, and to equally look at each other.  We hope that the community will see this, and will explore new thoughts and ideas to create a better outcome in the future.

Modern Beauty

MBeauty

How do you define beauty?  Based off of an essay, three girls wrote and developed this concept on how we define beauty.  Is the physical appearance of a person the only thing that will define them as beautiful?

First Class Studio

firstClassStudio

First Class Studio is an after school breakdance class comprised of 7th and 8th graders.  The purpose of this video is to promote health and fitness through breakdancing. We hope that fellow community members see that breakdancing is a competitive sport and would want to start their own dance groups.

Youth created media projects were showcased Saturday morning at the Sacramento Bee Community room. Teens, mentors, family and friends were welcomed to 21st and Q by the organizers of the annual event, UC Davis School of Education, Access Sacramento, KCRA Channel 3, KXTV News10 and other local media organizations. The event showcased digital media projects divided into three subject categories: (a) Health Fitness & Physical Activity, (b) Summer Matters & After-School Time, (c) Race, Culture, and Class. Each topic had a youth panel and each teen described their motivations for creating their projects.Following the honored projects showcase, 3 discussion groups spent an hour sharing their opinions and insights on the topic areas. The discussion groups and the event itself were masterfully coordinated by Kindra Montgomery-Block, bel Reyes, Zanae Scott, Jameel Pugh, and PJ Wellington.

The keynote speaker was SacBee.com Managing Editor Tom Negrete, a former South Sacramento teen who attended

McClatchy High prior to UC Berkeley and his later career in journalism.

Kindra Block-Montgomery, community relations for U.C. Davis School of Education commented, “We have been planning this event since last May at KCRA Channel 3. The young people and their families and friends were really excited to be honored by the Bee and the other media organizations. Tomorrow we will start planning for the third event next year. We appreciate the help and support from everyone especially the California Endowment and Access Sacramento.”

The morning finished with a lunch served on the patio of the Bee cafeteria. Discussions buzzed with teens sharing thoughts on social media, online videos, and future careers in journalism.
