“Music Everywhere!”  

This week LiveWire welcomes back Councilman, Steve Cohn. He will be talking about Pops in the Park in East Sacramento and you’re invited to come to East Sacramento to watch several great local bands play. The summer series begins June 2nd at 6pm and runs Saturdays through the month of June. Bands include The Nibblers, The Chris Gardner Band, The Q-Balls, and Ivan Najera & Friends. Also joining us this week are guests from the VITA Academy (Vocal & Instrumental Teaching Artists). Musicians, Liz Barton and Deborah Pittman will be sharing all the details about their special event, “Voices of the New World” which features the music of Dvorak, Copland, Moncay, Chen Yi, Thacker Burleigh, and DeMars. Musicians at the event include Deborah Pittman playing the Cedar Flute, Charles Spuill IV performing the Violin, and The Women of the Slavic Chorale. Pete Nowlen and Ryan Murray will be the featured conductors. The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 26th at 7pm at the CSUS Music Recital Hall. This week LiveWire is happy to welcome back guests from The Pacific Rim Street Festival. The festival is celebrating it’s 20th Anniversary ths year. Back in 1993 the festival was produced by Frank Fat, and is still one of the most popular festivals today. This year’s theme is “Spices”. It’s a flavorful trip through the diverse cultures that are from the Pacific Rim. The event happens on May 20th in Old Sacramento and The Downtown Plaza.

Sacramento is full of talented and diverse people and you can see them display their talents at local venues around town. Two of these venues include The Wilkerson Theater and also The Sac Multi-Cultural Festival. Guests from these events will be appearing on LiveWire to tell you more.

The Wilkerson Theater at The R25 Complex will be premiering “The Meaning of It All” by Robert Lautz. This comedy which included an amazing cast of actors as they tell a story of love, intrigue, and alchemy. The show starts April 27th at The Wilkerson Theater at California Stage inside the R25 Complex in Midtown Sacramento.

Also on LiveWire we’ll have some very special guests from The Sac Multi-Cultural Festival. The festival includes entertainment from the many diverse cultures represented in our local community and celebrates our unity. There will be many performances from local groups including Swing Master’s Band, Sangeet Bharati, Mistura Brasileira and dances from Tonga, Tahiti, Philippines, and more! LiveWire also has the pleasure of being visited by some of the teens from The Rosemont High School Jazz Band who will play some tunes for us. The festival happens May 5th and 6th at William Land Park.

Rain is bringing April showers and soon we’ll have May flowers. The sunshine will be here soon and so will some awesome events, too! LiveWire welcomes back guests from Festival de la Familia and football players from the Sacramento Sirens.
 
Guests from Festival de la Familia will be on the show to tell us all about what this year’s festival has in store. The festival is a celebration of Latino culture. They’ll have Latin food, arts & crafts, art exhibits, music, dance and educational exhibits. We’ll also have an artist joining us on the show who will be sharing some artwork you will be able to see more of at the festival. The festival will be held at Cal Expo on Sunday, April 29th from 10am to 6pm.

Guests include Cynthia Toussaint, a bill sponsor, who will speak about the bill and how it will help pain sufferers in California, Dr. Vinay Reddy, a local doctor working with pain sufferers here in Sacramento, and Henry Contreras, chronic pain patient and initiative supporter who will share his story and tell us how the bill can help others like him. This week LiveWire welcomes guests from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Greater Sacramento (LLS). The local Executive Director, Robert Ojeda along with their 2012 “Man of the Year” Delbert Stapp. They be talking about their organization and their local events. They will also be accompanied by L&L survivor and the LLS Campaign Management Team, Gloria Torres, who will be sharing her personal story of survival and recovery.

The film festival takes place on March 10th and 11th at The Crest Theatre in Downtown Sacramento. She will share details about the event and talk about the films. Saturday’s films include “Holy Land Hardball”, a real life look at baseball in Israel and “This is Sodom” a funny and slightly naughty tale. Sunday’s features include “Ahead of Time: The Ruth Gruber Story” about the inspirational photo-journalist and “Inside Hana’s Suitcase”, a true and deeply touching story.
