Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana has recently announced that he will be running as a Presidential Candidate for the 2020 election.
“I just announced I’m running for president of the United States,” stated Buttigieg on his Twitter. “Join in and donate if you can. It’s going to be an amazing ride and I can’t wait to be on it with you all the way to the White House.”
Many were excited and supportive of his decision and announcement to run. As an openly gay man who is younger than a large sum of Presidents at age 37, with a husband in a political role, Buttigieg differs from what American voters have seen.
Buttigieg believes in politics being led by the new generation that current politics and policies are affecting.
“Pete belongs to the generation that came of age with school shootings, the generation that provided the majority of the troops in the conflicts after 9/11, the generation that is on the business end of climate change, and the generation that—unless we take action—stands to be the first to be worse off economically than their parents.”
As politics and our society as a whole make a large shift and rapidly change, our leaders do as well. Many support Buttigieg because they see him as a part of that change.
