Non-league and regular season games have been completed and the third phase of the 2015 high school football season is upon us with the usual fervor and anticipation associated with games that involve championship drama.

The CIF Sac-Joaquin Section football playoffs commence this weekend with a plethora of games involving 78 teams placed on seven division levels sprinkled throughout the Sacramento Valley.

Among them is the Division-2 Pitman (Turlock) Pride vs. Del Campo Cougars match-up being televised by Access Sacramento at 7:00 pm Friday evening on the Hometown Sports Game of the Week. The game may be seen on cab le TV on Comcast channel 17, Consolidated Communications channel 17 and AT&T channel 14.  The Internet stream of this Access Sacramento produced game can be found at the  NFHS Network website in a partnership deal new to the playoffs this football season.

Pitman Coach Tom Tyler‘s 11th-seeded Pride (6-4, 3-2) finished 3rd in the Central California Conference following narrow losses to Merced and Turlock.

Pitman’s offense is guided by Junior QB Jacob Perez and features RBs Titus Schammel and Tyress Pope and WR Kamio Borja.  DBs Matt Parker and Sinue Cortes lead the Pride defense.

Del Campo Coach Mike Dimino‘s 6th-seeded Cougars (8-2, 6-1) enter the post-season as Capital Valley Conference runners-up to undefeated Antelope.

Del Campo fields one of the most explosive offenses in the area averaging close to 50 points per game.

QB Ben Purcell ranks among the elite passers in the area, and RB Javon Jackson, despite an injury-interrupted season, remains one of the best and most underrated RBs in the CIF-SJS.  LB Tito Rocha and DB Ray Griffin anchor the defense.

Playoff excitement and high energy will be bristling at Cougar Canyon in Fair Oaks.  Join the fun in-person under Friday night lights, set your DVR and catch Game-of-the-Week on the tube.  Both modes will yield a tantalizing treat.
