Though the start of the Sac-Joaquin Section football playoffs is still two weeks away, the Rio Linda Knights and Inderkum Tigers view this week’s match-up as the championship game of the Tri-County Conference. And with good reason.
The stage is set for this conference showdown with big chips on the table Friday evening at Inderkum High School where Access Sacramento will televise the Home Town Sports Game-of-the-Week featuring two high scoring offenses.
Watch the game on Comcast or Consolidated Communications (SureWest) Cable channel 17, AT&T U-Verse Channel 14 or on the internet from AccessSacramento.org.
Both teams enter this contest with identical 7-1 records. However, Inderkum holds a 1-game lead over the Knights in the TCC Standings. The Tigers’ defeat was a non-league setback vs. Monterey Trail, while Rio Linda’s defeat was a league loss to River Valley.
Both teams play weak second division opponents in week-10, which sets up this week-9, winner-take-all battle with the winning team virtually assured of claiming the Tri-County Conference championship.
Justin Reber is in his first year at the Knights helm after succeeding long-time Rio Linda Head Coach, Mike Morris. Reber presents an explosive Power-I offense averaging 43 points per game, led by QB Zach Burden and dynamic RB Marcel Brown who has scored 22 touchdowns. The Knights hard-hitting defense is anchored by LBs Pieter Koopman and Fila Hingano.
Veteran Inderkum Head Coach, Terry Stark, has once again assembled another fast and exciting Top-10 team. RB Austin Thurman and WR Larry Hardy are exceptional playmakers who have collectively accounted for more than 2000 total yards for a wing-T offense that averages 47 points per game. LB Derrick Henderson and DB C.J. Garmon are key stoppers among the Tigers swarming defense.
This game represents the first ever meeting between the two teams adding an intriguing unknown factor to the match-up that promises to hold fierce playoff intensity.
