On Saturday April 26th, the YMCA host their Healthy Kids Day, a free community event to inspire the youths of Sacramento to devote themselves to a more healthy lifestyle. The event is free, and will begin at 10 am and last until 1 pm.
Healthy Kids Day is an event designed by the YMCA to motivate youths to continue living healthily, even after school lets out for summer. During the event, children will be encouraged to participate in fun, active play and visit booths displaying information on how children can remain in the best of health, particularly during the summer months.
With summer break well on its way, health advocates are scrambling to ensure that the nation’s children will be provided with everything from nutritious lunches, to plenty of opportunities to go outside and participate in physical activities.
“Summer is the time for kids to get up, get out and grow. But for some kids, exposure to activities that stimulate the body and mind ends with the school year,” stated an article on ymca.net. “In fact, research shows that kids are prone to gain more weight and fall behind in studies.”
Hopefully, the YMCA’s initiative will help youths throughout America continue learning and living healthy both in and out of the school year.
If you would like to learn more about the event, you can call Sacramento Central’s YMCA at (916) 452-9622, or visit their website at ymca.net/healthy-kids-day.
