Attention all Sacramento Unified School District (SCUSD) students. SCUSD is hosting its 2nd annual Be Brave, Be You LGBTQA youth leadership conference Saturday April 6th. LGBTQA is an initial-ism standing for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, questioning and ally.

According to data from the Human Rights Campaign, 4 out of 10 LGBT youth say the community they live in is not accepting of LGBTQ people. Furthermore, 26% of LGBT youth say their biggest problem is not being accepted by their family, trouble at school including bullying, and a fear to be out and open. At the same time, 22% of non-LGBT youth say their biggest problems are trouble with classes, tests and grades.

The purpose of this conference is to create discussions and workshops centered on topics that affect LGBTQA youth. The topics consist of dating & relationships, being out in the workplace and planning for a Day of Silence. For students outside of the district interested in attending please contact Emily Her, her info will be below.

Again the event will be held on Saturday April 6th from10:00AM—4:00PM, at Sol Collective 2574 21st Street. Lunch will be provided to those attending, there will also be a photo booth, games and local performances.
