My mission is to

I’m on a mission to prove that the Sacramento area is full of young people interested in benefitting the community.

Hello again Accesslocal.tv readers. My name is Mikayla Franklin. I am sixteen years old and a Junior at Foothill High School. I am also a happy-to-be-back Neighborhood News Correspondent with high hopes and dreams for my second semester in the program.

As some of you may have already read, writing is one of my many passions. There’s just something magical about being able to form a story on your own, building sentences and placing in facts like puzzle pieces. Not only do I write a lot during work and school, but I can usually be found at my laptop during my free time, typing out a new adventure or song that I hope will someday catch someone’s eye.

Filming is also something that ignites a creative spark for me. I am determined to use my second opportunity as a Neighborhood News Correspondent to improve my video-making skills, which means limiting the amount of text-heavy slides and getting much more in-depth with my interviews. I know it will be a challenge, but I’ve learned the basics, and now it’s time to grow even more.

I’m on a mission to prove that the Sacramento area is full of young people interested in benefitting the community. There are so many organizations out there that accomplish amazing things every day. These people need a voice, and I see it as my duty as a journalist to highlight these incredible people. I hope to inspire others to help make our community a better place.

The first round of the program was amazing and exciting in many ways, and I am confident that the second go-round will be even better. My next few months will surely be full of traveling, filming, typing, and interviewing! Thanks for taking the time to read, I hope you stay tuned!
