R.I.S.E. is a student resource program that can be found in Sacramento City Community College. The name stands for Respect, Integrity, Self Determination, and Education. This program is a very important program for transferring college students as well as regular students. Their vision, according to the R.I.S.E. website, is to provide a place where students feel valued, respected, at ease, and confident. RISE is a place where students can share their victories, their defeats, their opinions, and their talent.
R.I.S.E. Define their philosophy as thus: “We believe all students can successfully complete college if they choose to. A commitment must be made that includes sacrifice, focus, personal responsibility, and a lot of dedicated hard work. To this end, RISE offers tutoring, community involvement, college tours, and the “hook up” on campus to competitive four-year universities.”
Being in this program gives you many perks as a student. For one, you can get personalized or easy-to-meet counselors. They also have really nice tutors for different subjects. There is even book loaning, but it is very limited. The books they have are books that were donated from students of the college. Book loaning is only offered at the beginning of a semester. In my opinion, the most valuable thing they offer is the university tours. These tours will either be low cost or free. To be apart of the tour, you have to write an essay on why you should go.
Valerie Moore, staff of R.I.S.E says “R.I.S.E. is a home away from, where students get connected to resources to insure their academic success.”
This program’s most unique feature is their wall of pictures. All the people on the wall of pictures are people who received help during transferring schools. At the bottom of the picture is the university they were accepted into. It’s really shows impact when people see those photos on the wall. This wall means that it’s not impossible to get into a good university as long as you have respect, integrity, self determination, and education!
